The Power of Pets

black and tan dachshund to illustrate story on the power of pets

Finally, an excuse to post a dachshund picture! (Just a stock photo, mind you — not a portrait of my imperious office-mate, Newt aka Queen Ween. Sshhh, don’t tell her. As I write this she’s tucked into a blanket burrito at my feet — a quirky behaviour that’s apparently common to doxies.)

Pets can provide us with everything from a reason to get up in the morning — something that’s vital to our well-being as we get older — to stress relief, impetus to stay active, and companionship. And these benefits may be especially valuable today, while we shelter in place during the COVID pandemic, particularly for individuals who are living alone.
